A little of History...
The
reason of the poetic baptism
“The
Flowers’ Street”
The ancient used to affirm that it was due to
the numberless rosebushes, creepers and other
flowery plants, which were there in the backyards,
fences and uncultivated land, in a notable quantity,
presenting color and beauty during the opening
of the street.
In 1879, The Flowers’ Street was one of
the most primitive streets, it didn’t have
pavement, only a red and thin dust, which during
rainy days would become viscous mud. People had
to wear boots which were famous by that time.
The mud would transform the shoes in heavy mud
blocks and make it very difficult to walk.
With its house, not lined up, with its roofs with
no gutters, when it was raining, it used to wet
all the people who needed to pass by. The illumination
was made with gas lamps during the darkest nights.
When the moon was full, they did not use the gas
lamp in order to save.
At the time, a narrow street, hardly illuminated,
formed for only three blocks with small constructions.
The commerce developed, and in the early 70’s,
The Flowers’ Street was closed for vehicles
and it became to be the first pavemented streetk
in Brazil.
To close The Flowers’ Street was not so
easy; To introduce the news with resistence of
the commerce that was not used to it and prefered
the vehicles’ traffic through the narrow
street that a few years before had two hands (both
ways). But along with the years, people started
getting used to it and realized that the street
of become a great street of commerce, an outdoor
mall.
Postcard, place for meetings and gossips where
everyone must walk through. The Flowers’
Pavemented street, in Curitiba, the first in the
country is something else. It’s the “curitibanos
beach”.
